This week has been busy at De Hoge Rielen for us. After a lovely weekend spent exploring Antwerp, we started our Monday off with an intense dose of exercise (much needed with so much good food intake) and a breakfast to keep us going until lunch time, which is set at 12:15. Monday went by in a rush and suddenly it’s Tuesday at 9:00 a.m and we’re strapped in a harness and helmet and ready to go on our first adventure in the forest with the Touwenparcours workshop.
In the morning we got to understand the basic security measures involved, like the importance of a well closed mosqueton and a properly tied knot, and the workings of the tree climbing course; and the afternoon was spent having fun! We experienced what it was to have your feet off the ground and felt almost like squirrels flying through trees. It was a huge adrenaline rush. We can’t wait to do it again soon!
After work, we play!
Just another great day at De Hoge Rielen.
Until next time,
Paula & Nicole.
It’s 12:30 on a Monday 2nd of March 2015, we’re about to take off from Madrid airport. Destination: Brussels.
Who are we?
Let me introduce us:
I’m Nicole and I’m a 22 year old journalist from the Canary Islands, where the weather is always above 20°. So what am I doing on a plane to freezing Belgium? I’m looking for a change in pace, a fresh start after finishing my degree. A new beggining. I’m a cooking advocate, so when I’m not on a bike or at the gym, you can find me in the kitchen cooking up a storm. I look forward to cooking, and eating, some Belguim food. Let’s get this party on the road!
And I am Paula, a 25 year old translator and interpreter (+ amateur musician). I live in Galicia, so it won’t be difficult for me to get used to Belgium weather. Looking for a complete change in my life, I also decided to board this plane. As a language lover, I’m ready for the Dutch challenge. I’m going to pack my guitar and discover this country and its people. Let’s get started!
Now that you know a little bit more about us, this is who we will be for the following months: EVS volunteers at De Hoge Rielen. We were selected for a 9 month project as part of the Erasmus+ Programme and will be taking part in full Belgium experience. We’re looking forward to be part of a brand new culture, discover Belgium through new flavours, and embrace Dutch (and sign language) as our new way of communicating.
We’re ready for a new life, follow for our EVS experience.
Nicole & Paula.
