It’s been so long time since I wrote in our blog last time (I leave that honor usually to Ania because she is much inspired then me to write) but today I decided that I had somethings to say.
I have to complain and make compliments (the gripes are easier and not to serious !!!)…

It’s been a two months since our arrival in De Hoge Rielen and still not cease to discover people, places and activities of this beautiful place! It’s hard to describe how this park can bring so much happiness to those who work here and those who simply spend their free time here, but I’ll try anyway to give you an idea….

Not only our arrival was newness in de Hoge Rielen on the beginning of the season. Definately much more exciting was opening new Natuur & Avontuur attraction which was building during last year and which seems to be a big success for now. As an EVS volunteer I had a pleasure to be involved in the preparation process, to take a part in a big ‘try out’ and the most important I have a possibility to work as an assistant in Avontuurparcours now, what I enjoy a lot! Let’s get to know more about this place…

After ten days of vacation in Spain I’m back at de Hoge Rielen, ready to take part in more workshops. I’ve already made lots of plans for the next three months in België. It’s going to be very interesting!
I’m really looking forward to beginning my Nederlands Cursus in Turnhout. There I’ll meet new people from de Buurt and improve my dutch skills. It would be nice if I can write my last posts in het Nederlands by the end of the project.
Another great project for this months is to create a short film to show you a bit more about EVS at the Hoge Rielen. My plan is to include some nice interviews. I’ll tell you more about it soon :)
But the best thing about this plans is that I can count on a super team if I need some help. It’s the team from Natuur en Avontuur. They prepare and guide amazing activities and I am happy to be part of it.
Here are some pics of funny moments we spent together while we were getting ready for the workshops.
Salukes en tot binnenkort!
July is about to start and you can feel the summer vibe at De Hoge Rielen, especially at the cafe. This week we are putting the finishing touches to the terrace and it already looks quite nice. The tables are painted and the signposts are almost ready. We’re also selecting cool music to create a very chill atmosphere.
I can’t wait to see the result and enjoy een pintje!
Here are some pictures of the process
This week has been busy at De Hoge Rielen for us. After a lovely weekend spent exploring Antwerp, we started our Monday off with an intense dose of exercise (much needed with so much good food intake) and a breakfast to keep us going until lunch time, which is set at 12:15. Monday went by in a rush and suddenly it’s Tuesday at 9:00 a.m and we’re strapped in a harness and helmet and ready to go on our first adventure in the forest with the Touwenparcours workshop.
In the morning we got to understand the basic security measures involved, like the importance of a well closed mosqueton and a properly tied knot, and the workings of the tree climbing course; and the afternoon was spent having fun! We experienced what it was to have your feet off the ground and felt almost like squirrels flying through trees. It was a huge adrenaline rush. We can’t wait to do it again soon!
After work, we play!
Just another great day at De Hoge Rielen.
Until next time,
Paula & Nicole.
